Online Fitness Coaching: How to set the PERFECT price

‍

It's one of the questions we get the most with the team.

‍

And it's not surprising.

‍

It's not surprising because we've never taught personal trainers how to set their prices.

‍

Well yes... it's true that sometimes it's only done for face-to-face coaching... but never for online coaching.

‍

In this video I'm going to share with you a simple way to determine the price of your online coaching. We've worked out a simple formula with the team to give you an idea of how much your online coaching should cost.

‍

On top of that, we have a little surprise at the end of this video to help you estimate it quickly... so stay tuned until the end.

‍

A little warning before you start: this formula created by the Gymkee team is only our own view on the subject and our experience with personal trainers. You have to check for yourself and set your prices according to your own research.

‍

Now that we've said that, we can dive in.Β πŸ‘‡

‍

No, online coaching price is not based on the number of workouts

‍

In order to correctly set your online pricing as a personal trainer... you must first understand one important thing:

‍

Online, you don't get paid per workout.

‍

Many trainers still make the mistake of charging their clients by the number of workouts they send out per week.

‍

The thing is, that's not how it works...

‍

To be successful as an online personal trainer... you have to change your mindset.

‍

This change of mindset involves stopping thinking like a trainer who still sells his time by the hour.

‍

As an online trainer, that is no longer the case.

‍

I know it's hard to understand because they always tell you that you have to exchange your time for money.

‍

But understand one thing...

‍

As an online personal trainer, you don't get paid per workout anymore...

‍

No...

‍

You get paid at the real value of what you bring to your clients.

‍

It's a bit confusing when you put it that way... but you'll see that by the end of the video, everything will make more sense.

‍

Now that you know that you have to change your mindset and not charge for your online coaching by the number of workouts as you would for face-to-face coaching... we can define the minimum value of an online fitness coaching.

‍

The value of online fitness coaching

‍

Online coaching is still undervalued.

‍

There are still too many personal trainers who undervalue themselves without necessarily being aware of it... and it's a shame.

‍

It's a shame because, at the end of the day, these are the same trainers who stop online coaching in a few months and say that it doesn't work.

‍

We've been saying it for several years now... online coaching should not sell for less than $100 per month.

‍

This is the minimum of the minimum.

‍

Why?

‍

Because a client will take you, if you do well, on average 2 hours per month.

‍

If for the base price we consider the value per hour of a trainers ... we get around $50.

‍

This way, at least, you can be sure that you will not be undervalued and will be paid at least the market value.

‍

Now that you have the base price... we'll be able to tailor it to some important factors.

‍

To set the right price for your online fitness coaching, you need to consider a few things:

‍

- Your experience
- The niche you are targeting
- Your qualifications & degrees
- The services you offer
- And your investments to guarantee your service

‍

Based on these factors, we will be able to increase by X% the base price of online fitness coaching.

‍

Yes, your experience as a fitness personal trainer matters

‍

First, we're going to judge your experience as a personal trainer.

‍

Because yes, to me, that is important.

‍

Some people will tell you not to take this as a factor... and in my view, they are wrong.

‍

It's obvious that a trainer with more experience should charge more than a trainer just starting out.

‍

Based on the experience, we have categorized personal trainers into 3 categories:

‍

  • Junior personal trainers: these are personal trainers who have 1 to 2 years of experience in fitness coaching.
  • Experimented personal trainers: personal trainers who have 2 to 4 years of experience in fitness coaching.
  • Senior personal trainers: personal trainers who have more than 5 years of experience in fitness coaching.

‍

Now that you have the 3 categories, you can see where you stand.

‍

Then... for each of the categories of experience of the personal trainers, we have added a percentage to be applied to the base price of the online fitness coaching of $100 to have a new base price according to your experience.

‍

‍

  • Junior personal trainers: If you are here, you will add nothing to the monthly base price for online fitness coaching, which is $100 per month.
  • Experimented personal trainers: If you are here, you will add 30% to the base price for online fitness coaching of $100 per month.
  • Senior personal trainers: If you are in this category, you will add 50% to the base price for online fitness coaching of $100 per month.

‍

‍

The choice of your niche directly impacts your income

‍

The choice of your niche obviously impacts your income and the price of your online coaching.

‍

Depending on your target, you will not have the same prices.

‍

If you are targeting Mr. and Mrs. Everyone, you cannot sell your online fitness coaching at high prices because your target audience may not have the financial capability to pay for it.

‍

On the other hand... if you are targeting a high ticket target, you can't afford to have low prices for fear of not being taken seriously.

‍

With the team we have identified 4 categories of niches (based on US data):

‍

  • The popular niche: in this niche we find people with an estimated income of up to $2000 per month.
  • The middle-class niche: in this niche we find people with an estimated monthly income between $2K and $8K.
  • The wealthy niche: in this niche, we find people with an estimated monthly income between $8K and $20K.
  • The last niche is the very wealthy niche: in this niche, we find people with an estimated monthly income of more than $20K.

‍

Some time ago we published an article that will help you understand what a niche is and how to choose the right one.

‍

You will find the article right here:

πŸ‘‰ Find your niche as a personal trainer

‍

Now that you have the different categories in mind... you will be able to apply a percentage to the base price of online fitness coaching in relation to the niche you are targeting.

‍

  • The popular niche: If this is the niche you decide to coach, you will add nothing to the base price of your online coaching.
  • The middle-class niche: If this is the niche you decide to coach, you will add a minimum of 20% to the base price of your online coaching.
  • The wealthy niche: If this is the niche you decide to coach, you will add a minimum of 50% to the base price of your online coaching.
  • The very wealthy niche: If this is the niche you decide to coach, you will add a minimum of 100% to the base price of your online coaching.

‍

Your knowledge is expensive

‍

Your qualifications also influence the price of your online fitness coaching.

‍

The more you educate yourself, the better are your services… and this is valuable.

‍

The more you educate yourself... the more you can offer other services... but we'll come back to that later.

‍

For the qualifications it's quite simple...

‍

If you only have your fitness coaching qualification... Of course you don't add anything to the price of your online coaching because it is a minimum qualification.

‍

If you have other qualifications, just add 10% to the base price of your online fitness coaching for each qualification.

‍

The more complete you are... the more you can charge

‍

Generally, the degrees & certifications we have mentioned have a specific purpose: to allow you to offer multiple services and to deliver a 360Β° coaching to your clients.

‍

The most added services are nutrition and mental training.

‍

It is obvious that for the services you add you must be paid for them and this will directly impact the base price of your online fitness coaching.

‍

Same as for qualifications... it's at least 10% per service you add.

‍

Now... it depends on the service you are adding.

‍

If it's something very premium you obviously have to adjust the percentage accordingly.

‍

If you have a coaching app... you can charge more

‍

One of the last but not least factors you can play on to set your prices as a personal trainer is the experience you offer.

‍

The reality is that you are not really selling fitness training...

‍

You're selling an experience...

‍

And that's especially true if you want to charge a lot of money.

‍

The difference between a trainer who charges very little and a trainer who charges a lot is the experience he provides to his clients…

‍

To help you understand the impact of an app and a better coaching experience on your coaching pricing we'll take a simple example.

‍

We'll take two trainers...

‍

Dwayne & Kevin.

‍

Kevin, to coach his clients uses PDF's, excels and WhatsApp.

‍

Dwayne, on the other hand, uses the app for personal trainer Gymkee.

‍

Kevin charges $100 a month...

‍

And Dwayne charges $120 per month.

‍

If you had to choose between these 2 trainers... which one would you choose?

‍

Trainers who use the Gymkee personal trainer app charge on average 20% more than a trainer who does not use Gymkee.

‍

Why?

‍

Because the trainer provides a better coaching experience.

‍

Where 90% of personal trainers will use Excel, PDF's or even WhatsApp to coach their clients...

‍

The trainers on Gymkee have their own app.

‍

And this allows them to do two things:

‍

- Sell their coaching more easily
- sell their coaching at a higher price
